In August of ’07 God asked Amy and I to start a church. We were both raised in Fort Worth, but had been serving as associate pastors in Benton, AR for about 10 years. As we talked to the Lord about where he wanted us, we both had Texas come into our hearts and then in February of ‘08 we discovered that Granbury was the home He had for our family. We kept visiting every time we traveled to Fort Worth to see family and it just got bigger inside of us. We have fallen in love with the area and know it’s where we are supposed to be. So for the last year or so we have been planning and getting things in order to move our family back to big, beautiful, hot Texas.
We are anticipating some awesome things to happen through The Way. I planned for years about how I would pastor a church, but finally realized that it’s not about me. It’s about Jesus’ plan and the people he has called us to have church with. It’s the people that matter, and everyone finding their place in a church family.
I don’t believe people should sit idly by week after week simply listening to someone speak and then going home unchanged. The church that Jesus started was a vibrant, living being, made up of people. It was never intended to be “a building”. You don’t go to a church; you go to meet with believers to celebrate the living God!
Every church has a different flavor, a specific part to play, and not one church family has it all together. I never have to look too far in my own life to see things I need to improve on. When you get a lot of people together, there are going to be things to work out, but that’s what family is about. Becoming better and not being judged for our shortcomings, but rather encouraged to move forward. We are all trying to have a good life, or should be, and that means discovering ways to make it better. We can do that together, and have a great influence for the Kingdom of God at the same time.
That is Church!
